  • My daughter has ADHD/ASD/learning difficulties, is this workshop for her?
In short, yes. She will need to be familiar with a group environment and comfortable being around people that are unfamiliar. Facilitators do the best to provide an inclusive environment for all and will always help with any activities if needed. Please be aware that sometimes noise levels can be loud. If you are unsure, please contact Head Start Psychology to discuss your concerns.
  • My daughter is anxious about coming, should I sign her up?
New things are always nerve racking. But then we do the scary thing and it isn't so scary anymore. With this in mind, if your daughter is anxious, encourage her to express her thoughts and worries. Validate her feelings and concerns. You may want to talk to her about why you think it will be beneficial to attend. There are also photographs of previous participants in the Gallery, which may give her a visual understanding of the workshops. If she is still showing signs of distress, it may be best to wait until she is older or knows another participant attending.

  • Will my daughter suit a group workshop?
Not every child will suit a group workshop. Some things to consider include: Is she comfortable in a group environment (maximum group number is 18)? Has she shown interest in the workshop topic? Would she benefit from it? Will she feel comfortable in a room full of different personalities that she is unfamiliar with? The workshops are a learning environment. Will she be prepared to learn, engage and participate? Each child develops differently. Is she able to listen, take turns, ask for help if she needs it and be respectful to her peers? After considering the above, as her parent you are the best person to decide whether you think the group environment is one that your daughter will feel comfortable in.
